I want to go to SE Asia and base myself somewhere to work and travel from. Sun, sea and beach are my criteria?

I am signed up for a TEFL course, I have a degree in English, so I can teach.. I work as a life and executive coach here and hope to use that in some capacity wherever I go, Singapore was suggested for that reason, however I'm not sure that's what I'm after, too western and controlled. I like the idea of Thailand for it's beauty, natural, laid back vibe, perhaps I could dip in and out of Bangkok and base myself out of there in a beach resort. But I am open to suggestions, I've never been to SE Asia. Thanks in advance.
